Best time to visit Uttarakhand
Uttarakhand spans foothill towns, Himalayan hill stations and high-altitude pilgrimage routes, so the best time depends on your plan. March to June and September to November are good for Mussoorie, Nainital and Rishikesh. Winter suits snow lovers at Auli and Chopta.
River rafting at Rishikesh usually runs outside the monsoon, and stops when water levels are high. The Char Dham yatra season runs roughly May to November, and the Valley of Flowers blooms in the monsoon, around July to September.
Picking a region
Garhwal covers Rishikesh, Haridwar, Mussoorie, Auli and the Char Dham routes. Kumaon covers Nainital, Almora, Ranikhet and Corbett. Plan one region per trip, since driving between them takes a long time.
Delhi to Haridwar and Rishikesh is a popular and short trip, while Kumaon lakes and hill towns are well reached from Delhi by road. Mountain roads in monsoon are prone to landslides, so check updates.
A sample 5-day Uttarakhand plan
Days 1 and 2: Rishikesh for rafting, yoga, the Ganga aarti and cafe life. Day 3: drive to Mussoorie for views and Kempty Falls. Day 4: Dehradun side attractions or a further hill drive.
For Kumaon instead, Day 1 to 2: Nainital and the lake, Day 3: Bhimtal and Sattal, Day 4 to 5: Jim Corbett for a safari, which needs advance booking.
Planning a Uttarakhand trip with a group in ROILLS
Create one shared trip in ROILLS, invite friends with a link, and put the day-wise plan where everyone can see it. Each person can add stops, notes and ideas, so the plan does not live in one organiser's head or a chat thread.
Log expenses as they happen, such as the cab, the stay, the meals and the entry tickets. ROILLS shows who paid, who owes and the final settlement, so nobody has to rebuild the maths on the last day.
