Best time to visit Himachal Pradesh

Himachal changes sharply by region and season. Shimla, Manali and Dharamshala are good from March to June and again in autumn. Winter brings snow to the higher towns. Spiti and the high valleys are generally open only from about June to October, once the roads clear.

The monsoon from July to September can cause landslides and road closures, particularly on the highways, so build in buffer days and check conditions before travelling.

Pick a circuit that fits your days

Trying to see everything in one trip leads to long drives. Common circuits are Shimla with Kufri and Narkanda, Manali with Kasol and the Parvati Valley, Dharamshala with McLeod Ganj and Bir, and the high-altitude Spiti Valley circuit.

Mountain roads are slow, so plan on a few hours between most places. Hire a driver familiar with the roads rather than driving yourselves, especially in snow or rain.

A sample 7-day Himachal friends trip

Days 1 and 2: Shimla or Kasauli for colonial-era streets and cool weather. Days 3 and 4: Manali for Solang Valley and Old Manali. Days 5 and 6: Kasol and the Parvati Valley for riverside walks, cafes and short treks.

Day 7: return via Kullu or Bhuntar. If you prefer a slower trip, choose two bases instead of four. Spiti needs a separate, longer plan with acclimatisation.

Planning a Himachal trip with a group in ROILLS

Create one shared trip in ROILLS, invite friends with a link, and put the day-wise plan where everyone can see it. Each person can add stops, notes and ideas, so the plan does not live in one organiser's head or a chat thread.

Log expenses as they happen, such as the cab, the stay, the meals and the entry tickets. ROILLS shows who paid, who owes and the final settlement, so nobody has to rebuild the maths on the last day.
