Best time to visit the Andaman Islands
October to May is the main season, with calmer seas and good visibility for snorkelling and diving. December to February is the busiest and priciest period. March to May is hot but still good for water activities.
The monsoon from roughly June to September brings rough seas, and ferries and water sports can be cancelled. Always keep a buffer day for ferry delays.
Getting there and moving between islands
You reach the islands by flight to Port Blair, mainly from Chennai, Kolkata and several other cities, or by ship on longer, less frequent routes. From Port Blair, government and private ferries connect Havelock (Swaraj Dweep) and Neil Island (Shaheed Dweep).
Book ferries early in peak season, since popular timings sell out, and plan your island sequence to avoid backtracking. Mobile networks are limited on the islands, so download maps and confirmations offline.
A sample 6-day Andaman group plan
Day 1: Port Blair, with the Cellular Jail and its light and sound show. Day 2: ferry to Havelock. Day 3: Radhanagar Beach and snorkelling or scuba for those interested.
Day 4: Elephant Beach activities or a diving session, depending on conditions. Day 5: Neil Island for Bharatpur and Laxmanpur beaches. Day 6: return to Port Blair for departure. Allow flexibility around weather.
